Shopping for Luggage: Get the Lowdown on the Handle System

We all know it’s the little things that make or break your travel experience. But if you break something on your luggage, your travel experience may end up being one you want to forget.
You may not have given thought to these three little important items — the handle extension system, the carry handles, and the handle grips — but let me tell you, if you don’t consider them when you’re purchasing your luggage, you’ll be cursing them when you’re on the go. Let’s talk about what to look for.
Travelpro Maxlite 4 Collection. Check out those great handles!
It’s all but impossible to purchase a rolling bag that doesn’t have a handle extension system, but not all systems are created equal! Most are constructed of lightweight aluminum and have multiple stops within the extension so that they can be adjusted for different heights. Travelpro thinks this system is so critical to a successful travel experience that we’ve patented ours. It’s called Powerscope.
Weight-driven bags may use thinner handle systems, and you definitely get what you pay for.
Powerscope’s construction utilizes rigid aluminum tubing that can withstand a hit — we put it through 15,000 up and down cycles during our testing process.. That rigid tubing also holds other totes or business bags that are strapped to it. It extends to 42.5″, which is extremely helpful if you’re tall. Powerscope is also designed to decrease wobbling and increase control, whether your bag is pulled or pushed.
Another little thing that makes a difference in your how your bag handles is the handle grip. Travelpro Spinner models have an ergonomically designed, cushioned grip with touch points fashioned for comfort when you’re pushing or pulling your bag through the airport. A high quality grip gives you more control of your luggage, when you are on the move.
Finally, let’s talk carry handles. When trying to reduce costs, some luggage manufacturers eliminate one or more of the handles on the top, side, or bottom of the bag. This reduces your options for transfer from the overhead bin or the trunk, making your bag less efficient. Travelpro’s side and top carry handles are cushioned, for ease of use and comfort.
If you want to enjoy the little things in your travel, pay attention to these little things, and they’ll make your trip much smoother and one to remember, positively.
