The Sterkfontein stalactitic caves, which consist of six linked underground chambers with a lake at a depth of about 40 meters, are one of the top attractions here. Archaeological excavations discovered the skull of a humanoid creature known as Australopithecus africanus, estimated to be two million years old, dubbed “Mrs. Ples.” In 1998, scientists found a skeleton dating the presence of early humans in the valley to 3.5 million years ago. Pilanesberg National Park
The Pilanesberg National Park, which is only a 2.5-hour drive from Johannesburg’s city center, is one of South Africa’s most famous game reserves. Aside from providing wildlife enthusiasts with the opportunity to see Africa’s Big Five, the park is also one of the most Instagram-worthy places in Johannesburg due to its vibrant ecosystems, diverse wildlife, and lush location smack dab in the middle of the Lowveld vegetation and the Kalahari Desert.
This park is home to lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalos, and leopards, as well as African wild dogs, zebras, sable, antelopes, and more than 300 bird species.
