If not much initially comes to mind when you think of Milwaukee, Wisconsin — spend a few minutes with us right now as we encourage you to learn more and go experience this unique American city. Every visit we’ve had to Milwaukee we’ve enjoyed — now that’s certainly not why we think you should go — but the facts are there are a number of reasons why tourism is up and continues to grow. So let’s explore them …
Of course, Milwaukee is known for its beer history and we’ll start there. Many first time travelers head to the grand Pabst Mansion, the former home of one of the city’s famous beer barons. Visitors can also enjoy a tour at the Miller Brewing company where you’ll experience over 160 years of brewing history and end with an ice cold beer! But Milwaukee has a lot more to offer than just beer and breweries.
Known as the “Big City of Little Neighborhoods” — Milwaukee is made up of 190 eclectic neighborhoods each offering something different for locals and travelers alike. There’s the Historic Third Ward, where fashion meets art with galleries, boutique retail shops and an abundance of restaurants. Think of this as a reenergized warehouse district with a funky vibe and plenty of things to do. Visit the Milwaukee Public Market on the North End and the famous Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design on the South End. A stroll through Henry Maier Festival Park along the Lakefront is also recommended and during warmer months there are festivals every weekend.
Just south of the city is the hip Bay View neighborhood. Home to lots of local art, a popular bar district, a thriving farmer’s market and maker fair, this bustling neighborhood offers plenty of visitor opportunities including some great outdoor time on any of its lakefront trails.
Westtown sits just west of the Milwaukee River and is a lively entertainment district. Home to sports arenas and popular venues like the Miller High Life Theatre, the Turner Hall Ballroom and the Riverside Theatre.
As you experience don’t miss out on the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, a.k.a The Domes. It’s open 365 days a year with all exhibits, including five seasonal exhibits, included in the admission price. For children, don’t miss the Milwaukee County Zoo or the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum.
Whether you’re a Brewers fan, want to take-in Giannis “The Greek Freak” Antetokounmpo at a Bucks game or perhaps motorcycles are your thing and you want to visit the Harley-Davidson Museum, Milwaukee has something for everyone. And their “MKE” international airport provides a great alternative to Chicago.

From sailing expeditions to laidback river cruises, there are plenty of options to meet your interests, see the city’s sites and have fun on the water in Milwaukee.
What was once an important American manufacturing town, has now become a haven for tech companies which has contributed to its renaissance and revitalization. So grab a beer, enjoy some cheese curds, try the famous brats at the Milwaukee Brat House and for dessert — you’re in Milwaukee — so of course you’ll want to enjoy their famous frozen custard.
